About Placer Golden Doodles
My name is Cathie, and I'm the owner of Placer Golden Doodles. Breeding puppies was a lifelong dream of mine that finally came true in 2006. Please contact me if you have any questions about Placer Golden Doodles. Below you'll find an overview of the name and history of our operation.
Placer is a form of gold mining carried on in our family in the 1940's - 1950's. My father was part of a placer operation that used dredges to take big scoops of earth out of the Nichi river in Colombia. Then they would sort through the soil to recover gold nuggets, gold dust and gold artifacts. Today, we show the same committment to quality in our breeding program.
My love of Golden Retrievers started over a decade ago with my first Golden, Beckett. He was my constant companion -- even accompanying me to work each day. He was variously known as the wellness dog and our mascot. People stopped by to see him and he always found a piece of paper or a ball to bring them.
Two years ago, I got my second Golden, Sophie. She and Beckett had a wonderful time romping around the property together. My original intention was to breed Golden Retrievers. However, just after his 10th birthday, Beckett developed a malignant melanoma in his toe. It spread quickly, finally taking his life in the spring of 2006. We have planted a Mayday tree on the grounds of the lab where I work in his honor. The plaque says "To Beckett, Labbie and loved friend"
Beckett's illness inspired my committment to breed for the highest standards of health. Not long after his death, I discovered Doodle. My research revealed that crossing Golden Retrievers and Poodles often produces hybrid vigor, in which the puppy inherits the most desireable health traits of each parent. In my quest to breed healthy dogs, I chose to breed Golden Doodles.
