This is Sophie expecting PGD's first litter on June 13, 2006. She is the mother/grandmother of all PGD puppies.
PGD had been in existence since 2006. From 2006 to 2008 we bred F1 puppies, from 2008 to the present we have been breeding F1b puppies. In 2011 we will start a new line of F1 breedings.
The name Placer, comes from a method of gold mining in which the gold flakes and nuggets are separated from great buckets full of sand and water from river bottoms. Like these miners I am looking for the pure gold quality dogs.
The seed of PGD began with my first golden retriever, Beckett. Unfortunately, he had to be neutered due to a genetic malady. Beckett was the dog love of my life, there will never be another to replace him in my heart. We had a wonderful 10 years together, then he started licking a toe all the time. It turned out he had melanoma and within a year it spread to his lungs and I lost him. I still miss him, even with all my puppies!
I have always wanted to raise puppies, and after Beckett I became acutely aware of health issues especially in goldens. A friend told me about goldendoodles and hybrid vigor, and I started to investigate. I already had Sophie, a golden so I planned my first litter. I found a healthy miniature poodle as her mate. We got 7 exceptional mini goldendoodles in shades of red. Their pictures can be seen in the June 2006 Litter. We have had 8 wonderful litters since then.
We came from health concerns, and trying to emulate the temperament of Beckett. Hence "Dogs of Optimum Health and Temperament" is our guiding principle.
